These works declare a sense of challenge,
pursued for example through a competitive tension (sport and economy, but
experienced also within the contemporary artistic system, with its mechanisms,
its economies, and its sophisticated spin-offs), or resorting to the daily
practice of making (in the sense of a diligent, obstinate industriousness).
This idea of 'competition' also comprises those activities variously articulated
around the concepts of social
climbing, submission and ransom.
